Sherman Yeung is a first-generation American whose parents immigrated from Hong Kong. He didn’t step into the kitchen professionally until nearly 30, wanting to hold onto the joy of cooking before turning it into a career.
Now well known in the Texas food scene as the chef-owner of Tobiuo Sushi & Bar, he’s building a growing restaurant presence rooted in both culture and community. His approach to food is thoughtful and intentional, blending technique with storytelling and creating experiences that feel both personal and innovative.
While his foundation is Cantonese, his work reflects a broader perspective, pulling inspiration from across Asia and reimagining it in a way that feels fresh and modern. Just as important, he’s committed to fostering diverse, inclusive kitchens that reflect the communities they serve and the future of the industry.
